RECLAMATION ART

Many have asked what exactly is it that I do...

I used the saying "Mixed Media art" for a while

but it is not really what I felt explained how I

take old things and repurpose them with my art.

Some times I repaint, add papers, pour resin, add

glass, Sometimes I actually do artist painting.

I never know how something will turn out until it is 

in my hands. Sometimes I think about the person I am making

it for, sometimes I don't know who will be the new owner.

So I was talking/texting with the boo and explained

my dilemma. Asked him to help me explain what I do

and in almost minutes, he came up with:

RECLAMATION ART

and continued with the definition:

THE ART OF MAKING OLD THINGS BEAUTIFUL

Wow! Could not have said it better myself.

Below is just some of the many things I have made and

sold. The boo and I are always hunting for things I can use

to repurpose, reclaim....

I also make hand made cards, all my cards are empty inside.

That is on purpose, Why you ask? 

Because the written word is leaving us and I want my cards

all to have a love note added by the purchaser.

Also, I am cheaper than Hallmark and each is hand done.

a sweet baby girl, I explained to her...

and feel now and as she grows.

That there is one of the many reasons I do what I do.

Love from Mummies' Cottage!

Morning peeps!

I can finally share this personalized tile I created

for a young man whom was raised with my daughter,

neighbors to us for many years, and his sweet girl,

Lindsey. We gathered on Sunday for brunch,

the three moms and our three children who have

all remained fairly close, to celebrate Gavin.

I am hoping his future wife loves this ceramic tile as 

much as I love putting it together.

Their wedding invite is the main part, tied with the

ribbon that came in the invite.

On the right side corner is the stamps she chose to mail

her wedding invitations and the wax seal that closed 

the envelope! Oh how I love wax seals, will have to start

using mine again.

So the saying goes,

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...

The new is all their wedding invitation parts.

The old is the earring that hangs from their announcement,

and the lace from my own wedding dress circa 1984.

Nothing to return so the borrowed part, well we will skip that part.

and the something blue, the tiny button on the B for Bruce.

I cannot wait for this wedding, Going to be lots of

reminiscing and I like nothing more than that!

JOURNALS, JOURNALS, JOURNALS...

This journal has been made for a special someone but

there is always someone who can use a special journal such

as this.

MY JOURNAL STORY

I have always been a dairy writer as a child,

a teen journaler, I have so many compositions, diaries,

journals filled with words, but this story is a love story.

A story between a Momma and her babies.

Having been a childhood cancer survivor,

first told I would not live, then I would never have children,

imagine my surprise when at the age of 21,

having been married just 9 months, I found myself

pregnant. On that day I began a journal, a long love

note to my unborn child. Having always a fear that I

would not live to see this child as an adult, I wanted

to leave parts of me behind for this baby.

Four years later, I did the same thing when I was 

blessed with a second child.

I promised to myself, that I would be honest in these

journals, reminding me that they would be adults when

they read these, 

they were not journals about "today you..."

It was the nitty gritty of life, good and bad, following them

through all the hurdles of life.

As adults, I presented these journals to my babies.

I remember the Christmas I gave them to Rod

the second time (first time, he was not in a good place so

I took them back).

Late that evening, sitting down with company, I 

got a phone call from my baby boy.

"Mom, what you doing?"

"Sitting down for supper with company"

I hear him crying, "Thank you, Mom, for all you did for 

me, for Jes, to assure we had good lives, I never knew

before all you have done, I just wanted to thank you and

let you know I love you."

Yes, leaving words to your children will affect them as adults.

Jes,  gypsy baby, had a similar reaction.

Then three days ago she called again to say

she was reading her journals again and had forgotten about

how much was in them. 

her words:

"I LOVE THEM. THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST 

GIFT I HAVE EVER GOTTEN. I AM LUCKY TO

HAVE YOU AS MY MOMMA"

No better affirmations.

So today. let it be the first day you begin to journal, 

whether it be an art journal, a journal for yourself or a 

journal for your babies, put your words to paper,

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

YES, it's going to be Valentine's day before

we know it. I Have whipped up this cute little card

abd am in love with how it came out!

I am selling this type for 1.25 a piece

Or 5 for 5 dollars. I will be making a few different types

these measure approx. 4 by 5 1/2

Simple, clean lines.

Like all Mummies' Cottage cards, the 

insides are blank, as I believe love letters should

be written by hand from the heart from on to the other.

You just may not realize how much your words to

someone you love can make their day, their week,

shoot, for some- Their Year!!!

I will post different ones as I make them.

A NEW BUSINESS PROPOSAL...

During the Holidays, I went to the Rail Road Antiques store

here in Plaquemine and was approached by the owner

who asked me if I would be interested in taking some room

in her store. I think this is the type of place I can show my 

work, junking shop for resale and profit.

I have not worked out the details yet

as I told her I would be back after the holidays to

discuss the business aspect but I am seriously thinking

about taking the offer,

so soon Mummies' Cottage will have a place to sell

to the public, stay tuned for more.

PAPERBAG WRITER...

Offering this lesson, 

turning ordinary brown lunch bags into beautiful mini albums.

The class is approximately 2 1/2 hours and all supplies are included.

MY THOUGHTS ON CARDS

One of the big things I want to focus on this year of 2018 

is HandMade cards....

I have always been a believer of love notes, snail mail cards.

Each year since my children have been in my life,

when they asked what I want the answer is always, always.

A LOVE LETTER

sometimes I am lucky, sometimes I get a gift, lol

I will be focusing on 

MUMSIES COTTAGE CARD LINE.

I cannot make this small business work without

those who love what I do make the orders that

keep me in this job.

What makes me different than Hallmark?

I ask this question because in my heart I think often,

"What if Mummies' Cottage cards become a big deal?"

I think of my beliefs on the subject.

1) My cards will always be handmade so I will

never be worldwide like Hallmark.

2) Most will be one of a kind and many will be 

personal, as you order it.

3) All the insides of my cards will always be blank,

on purpose, because we do not use words enough

anymore, we allow "the perfect card" to say what we want.

My cards will  pull that heart string to have you adding

the finishing touch.

4) I can make what I call Heirloom cards, they are a little

more expensive than my common cards but they are

made to be framed, loved and passed down.

5) My cards are made to be mailed, old fashioned 

stamp and post office, We need to use this service

or we may loose lots of post offices. Also, everyone

gets excited when they get a personal card in the mail

instead of a bill.

I will never be as big as Hallmark, I don't want to be but

I do have a dream of an on line store where

I can make cards for many knowing that all those things

above are being accomplished.
